Day1#
Pickup in Medan > Bukit Lawang
Included: pick-up service, driver, car, accommodation in Bukit Lawang
The 9D8N North Sumatra Tour starts with a meet & greet with our driver at the airport in Medan (or at your hotel if applicable).
We drive to Bukit Lawang where you check-in at your hotel. Depending on the time of your arrival, you may also already meet and hang out with the Local Guides team in Bukit Lawang.
Day2#
Jungle Trekking
Included: guide, cook, entrance fees, jungle camp, meals: B L D
We depart from Bukit Lawang around 9 am after breakfast at your hotel. We walk into the Gunung Leuser National Park and embark on an adventurous journey together.
Along the way we see a lot of wildlife, such as gibbons, leaf monkeys, longtail and pigtail macaques, flying squirrels, Sumatran peacocks, hornbills and of course orangutans.
As we walk through the jungle, our guide will show the medicinal plants and how to use them in practice. After a nice lunch in the afternoon, we continue towards our camp site where we will rest, get a hot drink, take a refreshing bath in the clean stream and then we will end our day at dark with a well-deserved diner at a campfire or candle lights.

Day3#
Jungle Trekking

Waking up in the middle of the jungle is a magical feeling. You hear the morning sounds of the birds and the excitement of the gibbons in the distance as you breath the fresh air.
After a good breakfast, we get ready to leave the camp and walk for 5 to 6 hours in the jungle towards another camp site (usually “Aras Pinang”). Along the way, we enjoy the nature and wildlife, try all sorts of ‘jungle-food’ and how to recognize them and use them. We have lunch in the jungle somewhere half-way.
At the camp we can relax and take a refreshing bath in a clean jungle river. We end the day with a candle light dinner.
Day4#
Jungle trekking & Berastagi
Included: guide, cook, entrance fees, tube rafting, transfer by car, accommodation in Berastagi, meals: B L

After a good breakfast, we get ready to leave the camp and walk for 5 to 6 hours in the jungle towards another camp site (usually “Aras Pinang”). Along the way, we enjoy the nature and wildlife, try all sorts of ‘jungle-food’ and how to recognize them and use them. We have lunch in the jungle somewhere half-way.
Then, our tube rafts will be brought and prepared, and we head for an exciting adventure on the jungle river (alternatively, we can return by foot depending on your personal wish)!
In Bukit Lawang we pack everything and continue the journey by car to Berastagi. Check-in at our hotel in Berastagi in the late afternoon.
Day5#
Volcano trek – Hot Springs – Lingga
Included: guide, car transfer, entrance fees, accommodation in Berastagi, meals: B
Pick-up early in the morning and drop off at the starting point of the trek on mount Sibayak. The hike to the volcano takes almost 2 hours. At the top your guide explains the volcano’s history and geology, as you wait for the magical moment that the sun rises and shines into the mountain.
Then we visit the Debuk Debuk hot springs and enjoy the beautiful view of mount Sibayak as we have lunch here. We continue to the old village “Lingga” with an authentic architecture and history, and wander around the village.
We get back to our hotel in Berastagi, where we have a free program in the afternoon. Enjoy the swimming pool, the beautiful view and the relaxing.
Day6#
Berastagi > Sipiso Piso > Lake Toba (B L)
Included: transfer by car, ferry, accommodation in Samosir, meals: B L
After breakfast we depart by car to Lake Toba. On the way we make a stop at one of the highest waterfall’s in Indonesia called Sipiso Piso (“like a knife”), and which runs into Lake Toba.
Enjoy the breathtaking panorama at the top or follow the path down via the stairs. On this path we have a spectacular view of both the waterfall as well as of Lake Toba.
We’ll have lunch at Sipiso Piso. Then, we continue to Parapat where we take the ferry to Samosir island and we check-in to our hotel in the afternoon.
In the free program thereafter, we can relax, explore the beautiful beach garden of our accommodation, take a swim, or enjoy diner with a sea-side view from the hotel restaurant.
Day7#
Lake Toba Tour
Included: guide, transfer by car, accommodation in Samosir, meals: B L
We have breakfast with a morning view of Lake Toba. After breakfast our Lake Toba tour starts during which we will immerse ourselves in Batak Culture.
We visit Simanindo, where our guide shows us around in the village, and where we will enjoy a traditional Batak dance. We wander around in the village, and visit the Batak museum.
We have lunch at a local restaurant with a beautiful view of Lake Toba. Then we continue to Ambarita to see the famous stone chairs and the tomb of King Siallagan. Our guide explains us about the history and shows the the beautiful ancient architectures of the village.
We return to our hotel in the afternoon where we can relax, swim in the beach garden of our accommodation, and enjoy diner with a lake-view from the hotel restaurant.
Day8#
Lake Toba – Medan
Included: transfer by car, ferry, accommodation in Medan, meals: B
Free program until lunch. A recommended activity for the day is to explore Lake Toba by kayak. Paddle through the serene landscape and take a dive in the fresh water. The more adventurous travelers or older children could consider jet skiing.
We could also wander through Samosir island and visit local villages, relax at the hotel’s garden beach or at one of the many beaches in Samosir island.
After lunch we depart by ferry back to Perapat and continue by car to Medan. We check-in at the Medan airport hotel and say goodbye to our driver.
Note: Medan is a crowded city with few attractions, so we typically stay at the Medan airport hotel for convenient morning flights.

After breakfast we walk into our terminal to catch a morning flight without rush.
Note: In case you spent the previous night in Medan city, we would provide a transfer from your hotel to Medan Airport.
